WARDOGS playtest crashing or access denied? Check Steam eligibility, hardware, files, drivers, and error logs in this safe troubleshooting order.
Current access and hardware baseline
Before treating a crash as a graphics problem, check whether the Steam account and the machine meet the current public baseline.
These are the current Steam listing requirements. The playtest entitlement and the exact crash log still matter even when the hardware passes.
Confirm the build is meant to open for your account
If the launcher says access denied, the first question is eligibility, not performance. Confirm the correct Steam account, the current 21–23 August 2026 playtest window, and whether the invite or preorder entitlement has landed. A closed test may reject a perfectly healthy installation when the account is not in the active cohort.
Use the official WARDOGS community signup and Steam store page for access information. Avoid mirrored installers, code sellers, and downloads shared outside those channels.
Run the safe client checks in order
- Restart Steam and the computer, then launch the game from the library rather than an old desktop shortcut.
- Open the game properties and verify the installed files. Let Steam repair anything missing before changing settings.
- Install the latest GPU driver recommended for your card, then reboot. Do not stack multiple driver utilities while diagnosing one crash.
- Disable overlays and capture hooks one at a time if the crash happens before the menu appears.
- If the error mentions permissions, move the install out of a protected custom folder or run the platform client normally with the correct account.
The current Steam listing names Windows 10 with an i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3500, 16 GB RAM, and a GTX 1660 or RX 590 as the minimum. It lists Windows 11, an i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5700X, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT as recommended, with 50 GB of storage for both.
Capture the error instead of guessing
Write down when the crash happens: launch, loading screen, joining a match, or returning to the lobby. Include the build number, Windows version, GPU, driver version, RAM, and whether overlays are enabled. That turns “it crashes” into a report the team can reproduce.
| SYMPTOM | TRY FIRST | KEEP FOR REPORT |
|---|---|---|
| Access denied | Account and window check | Invite or entitlement state |
| Crash on launch | Verify files and overlays | Crash time and log |
| Crash in match | Driver and graphics reset | Map, action, and squad size |
| Queue hangs | Restart client and check status | Timestamp and region |
